Missed call text-back and AI receptionist for plumbers and heating engineers

You can't answer the phone with your arm under a boiler or your head under a sink. If nobody picks up, a caller with no hot water often just rings the next firm. InstallerLine answers for you, takes the details, pencils services and surveys into your diary for you to confirm with one tap, and texts you a summary.

Calls you miss on the tools

Calls come in at the worst moments: draining down a system, soldering in a cupboard, or driving between jobs. Evening and weekend calls are often the urgent ones, and they're the easiest to miss.

Example calls, and how InstallerLine handles them

Boiler breakdown at 7pm

The call: A caller's combi has stopped and they've got no heating or hot water. They mention an elderly parent lives with them.

What InstallerLine does: Takes their name, address, postcode, boiler make and the fault, reads it all back, and tells them you'll call back. Because it's no heat in a vulnerable household, it's marked urgent.

What you get: An URGENT text and email with everything you need to ring back, plus the recording.

Annual service while you're on a job

The call: Someone wants their boiler serviced before winter and rings while you're mid-install.

What InstallerLine does: Checks when you're free and pencils the service into a morning slot as provisional, telling the caller it isn't final until you confirm.

What you get: A text with the slot and the caller's details. Tap to confirm, or reply with another time and we text the caller for you.

Caller rings off

The call: A caller with a dripping overflow hangs up before the AI picks up.

What InstallerLine does: Sends them a text back straight away, in your business name, so they know you'll be in touch.

What you get: A missed-call alert with their number, so they don't end up ringing someone else.

Examples only. They show how the service is set up to handle these calls.

What it handles for heating engineers and plumbers

✅ It will

  • Answer in your business name, 24/7, in plain British English
  • Tell callers it's an AI assistant and that the call is recorded
  • Take name, phone, postcode, address and job details, and read them back
  • Breakdown, leak and no-hot-water calls, flagged by urgency
  • Boiler services, power flushes and install surveys, pencilled in for you to confirm
  • Questions you've approved: area, hours, Gas Safe registration, guarantees
  • Landlords and letting agents with several properties
  • Text back callers who hang up

❌ It won't

  • Pretend to be a person
  • Diagnose faults or give technical advice
  • Quote prices you haven't approved
  • Promise a firm time or price, or take card payments
  • Treat emergencies as routine jobs
Gas and carbon monoxide safety comes first. If a caller mentions a gas smell, the AI tells them to leave the property, avoid switches and flames, and call the National Gas Emergency Service free on 0800 111 999 (or 999 if anyone is in danger). For a carbon monoxide alarm or symptoms, it tells them to stop using the appliance, get into fresh air, call 0800 111 999 and get medical help. It never pencils these in as normal jobs, and you get an immediate safety alert.

How it works

1

Divert your missed calls

Turn on "divert when busy or unanswered" on your mobile or landline. It takes two minutes, and we send you the steps for your network.

2

We build your receptionist

We set up your services, area, hours, FAQs and diary, and test it before it goes live. You approve exactly what it's allowed to say.

3

Every enquiry, captured

After each call you get an email and a text with the caller's name, number, postcode, job and urgency. Anyone who rings off gets a text back.

📞 Call the demo line

The demo answers as a fictional heating firm, Borders Heating. Your line is set up for your own trade, with your services, area, hours and the questions you want asked.

Standard UK call rates apply. Calls to the demo line are recorded and transcribed so we can improve the service. Borders Heating isn't a real firm, so nobody will be sent out.

Questions from heating engineers and plumbers

Does InstallerLine work for heating engineers and plumbers?

Yes. We set it up for your firm: your services, area, hours, the questions you want asked and what counts as urgent. You approve exactly what it's allowed to say before it goes live.

Do I need to change my phone number?

No. You keep your number and divert calls you don't answer (or all calls, if you prefer) to your InstallerLine number. Your phone provider may charge for diverted calls, depending on your plan.

Does it confirm jobs on its own?

No. On Receptionist and Busy Firm it pencils jobs and visits into your diary as provisional, and nothing is final until you confirm with one tap or reply with another time. If you don't confirm within 24 hours (or 2 hours before the slot, if sooner), the slot is released and the caller is told you'll ring them.

Will callers know it's an AI?

Yes. It says so at the start of every call, and it tells callers the call is recorded.

Will it give heating or plumbing advice?

No. It doesn't diagnose faults or tell callers how to fix things. It takes the details and gets them to you, apart from the gas and CO safety instructions above.

Can it handle breakdowns differently from services?

Yes. Services and surveys can be pencilled into your diary for you to confirm. Breakdowns and repairs are always passed to you as call-backs, marked by urgency.
